*MS36 - Simien Mountain National Park in Ethiopia*
The Simien Mountain National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site located about 550 km north of the capital Addis Ababa. In 2015 we had a 2-hour hike at the park, around the 3,000 m zone, part grassland and part forested with African cedar.
The park houses several endangered species of animals. We never managed to see any. Sure cannot see lah, sales talk only mah!
We did see many herds of gelada, a species of monkeys found only in the the Ethiopian highlands. They are much bigger in size than the common brown tail macaque in Malaysia. These galadas are also called the "bleeding heart" monkeys. For males the colour of the bare patch of skin on the chest shows their sex virility. Red means sexually excited, 6th photo. How men wish there is such an indicator in women! Life is very much easier then!
Shown a local on the highlands. A typical farmer in his usual attire, carrying a stick, as a weapon if attacked by wild animals or the MIL. Shown also a species of the Red-hot Poker. Man and plant standing tall.
