*WS 18 (re-post) - The sleepy town of Antigua, Guatemala*
For our small town series we now move to Central America. Antigua is a town with 35,000 people in the central highlands of Guatemala, and a formal capital. It is earthquake prone. It is now famous for its well-preserved Spanish Baroque buildings and churches, some in ruins, a result from the earthquakes.
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An interesting and unique feature here is the business signboards. They are well regulated, all very small, like 2 ft by 3 ft. And mostly made of wood.
Then the colourful buses, mostly re-conditioned old “school bus” from the US.
