*WS 67: The renowned Museo Nacional de Antropologia in Mexico City, Mexico*
The renowned National Museum of Anthropology is the biggest and most visited museum in Mexico. It is big, with 23 rooms over an area of 80,000 sq m. The museum contains significant archaeological and anthropological artefacts from Mexico's pre-Columbian heritage. Unfortunately not much info in English is provided. We spent an afternoon here in 2013.
Many types of exhibits related to anthropology are displayed. The more interesting to be presented here are the statues and masks. Some of the statues are huge, like those in the 1st 2 photos. See how small the visitors are compared to the statues. The 1st is the colossal head from the Olmec period (900 BC and older) and the 2nd a statue of the Aztec Mother Goddess Coatlicue. Then 2 funny-looking statues. The 5th and 6th are masks, and the 7th and 8th are pottery items
