The State Hermitage Museum is a museum of art and culture, one of the oldest and most famous museums in the World. Its collections comprise over three million items including the largest collection of paintings in the World. It is housed in 6 buildings, including the Winter Palace. We were here in 2011 and we had to queue nearly an hour to get in.
The 1st photo shows the Winter Palace and the 2nd the queue in the courtyard. The 3rd photo shows the famous "Peacock Clock", a giant automatic clock made by James Cox in 1772.
Famous sculptures include "Three Graces" by Canova Antonio (1813-1816) and "Prometheus and the First Man" by Pietro Stagi (1783-1793). And the painting shown are "Seamstress" by Campigli Massimo (1925), "Madonna with Child" by Leonardo da Vinci (1480s) and the masterpiece "La Danse" by Henry Matisse (1910).
