一瞥中国甘肃的大藏庙 - 拉卜楞寺 a glimpse of the Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, Gansu, China

WS 69: 一瞥中国甘肃的大藏庙 - 拉卜楞寺 a glimpse of the Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, Gansu, China

The Labrang Monastery, located in Xiahe County, Gansu Province, is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect (Yellow Sect) of Tibetan Buddhism. It was established in 1709. The monastery retains the best Tibetan Buddhism teaching system in China, dominated by 6 colleges. It is the mother temple of over 100 sub-temples of Labrang Monastery in China.

Labrang Monastery occupies a total area of 870,000 sq m, with more than 90 main halls, including 6 colleges and 16 Buddhist temples. We stayed here for a few hours in 2017, just a glimpse of the temple complex.

Taking photos inside the temple is prohibited. All the photos posted here are outdoor photos. The 2nd photo shows the prayer hall of one of the 6 colleges, which can accommodate 3000 monks chanting. In the 3rd photo, the building with the gilded roof is the Shakyamuni Buddha Hall. On the door, there is a plaque in the 4 languages of Han, Tibetan, Manchu and Mongolian donated by the Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty. The carved wooden lintels in the temple are very intricate.
