*WS 63: Exploring The Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle, USA*
The Museum of Pop Culture is a non-profit museum dedicated to contemporary popular culture. It was founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen in 2000. The exhibits cover the many facets of pop culture, from music, the world of fantasy, horror cinema, video games, science fiction literature, etc. We were here for 2 to 3 hours in 2019.
The 140,000 sq ft main building is said to look like a smashed guitar. Unfortunately it could not be visualised at ground level. At ground level, the exterior has no shape, just all forms of curved surfaces, 1st 2 photos. The 3rd photo shows part of the interior, in total chaos, while the 4th shows the 21-m high ceiling of the concert venue, called Sky Church.
The 5th is a lighted staircase. The main attraction is the giant guitar sculpture, 6th photo, consisting of 500 musical instruments and 30 computers. The 7th shows a false tunnel in the Fantasy World while the 8th is more down to earth, the memorabilia of a local pop band.
