The thousand islands of Halong Bay in Vietnam

*WS 163 - The thousand islands of Halong Bay in Vietnam*

Halong Bay is a bay about 180 km south-east of Hanoi. The Bay covers an area of over 1,500 sq km and is dotted with some 2,000 limestone islands and islets. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We were here the 2nd time in 2017, on a cruise for 2 days. For many tourists, this place is like something right out of a movie.

The name Hạ Long means "descending dragon". The rocks are mainly limestone with the typical karst formation, and dotted with wind- and wave-eroded grottoes.

We were on a cruise called Christina Diamond Cruise, 1st photo. The cruise made several stops where we could go on land, like the Ban Chan Beach and the Thien Canh Son Cave, last 2 photos.
